Blame the victim

It's been months since I've listened to the national right wing talk shows like Rush Limbo, Sean Gahargity, Michael Weiner and the others. But I do occasionally listen to the local talk shows. They're basically Limbo wannabees and they just listen to him and recycle what he says. I figure I might as well be aware of the Roger Ailes, Fox News, RNC talking points. For the past few days, it's been really amusing to hear these guys and their sycophant "news casters" fall all over themselves trying to justify why Cheney shot a man and left it to a ranch owner to tell the media. They blamed the victim for not yelling at the hunting party. After all, they say, he should have made himself known as he walked up behind the hunters. They blamed the media for making a big deal about an accidental shooting. After all, this type of hunting accident happens all the time. Really? I don't remember the vice president of the United States shooing somebody all athe time. The other day, Daily Kos had a metaphor for the Cheney shooting in which he basically drew the parallel betweend the shooting and the way the administration operates. The secrecy, reluctance to reveal what they're doing, not taking responsiblity for their actions and above all, as we've seen numerous times, blaming the victim. There really is a double standard. Can you imagine what would happen if a prominent Democrat had an accident and failed to report it for 24 hours and then took 4 days to make a statement about it?
