With Mr. Reig's passing, there are very few of the old NBC staff announcers left. Don Pardo's still working, on Saturday Night Live, but he retired from NBC in 2004, a year before Mr. Reig did. Vic Roby and Roger Tuttle, as of this writing, are still among the living, possibly Mel Brandt as well, but I'm not sure about former Another World announcer Bill Wolff.
ReplyDeleteA partial list of other golden voices who graced NBC's airwaves over the years and have since passed on include: Fred Facey, Wayne Howell, Bill Wendell, Arthur Gary, Bill Hanrahan, Fred Collins, Jerry Damon, Radcliffe Hall, Gene Hamilton, Bill McCord, Dick Dudley, Matt Thomas, Bob Waldrop, Harry Fleetwood and Jack Costello. And that's just from the New York staff. Over on the West Coast there were such now-deceased names and voices as Don Stanley, Donald Rickles, Arch Presby, Frank Barton, Wendell Niles, Vincent Pelletier, Peggy Taylor and Victor Bozeman.
If anybody has any word of which other announcers are either still among the living or have passed on, feel free to advise.
