Goodbye Netscape

AOL has decided to finally put an end to Netscape, the web browser that essentially made the World Wide Web accessible to everybody with a dialup connection. In 1994, when Netscape came on the scene, Microsoft thought that the internet was just a gimmick. When they realized that was a miscalculation, they set out to develop a browswer that would be bundled with Windows. They also discouraged computer makers from offering Netscape on their computer desktops. This decision led to the Microsoft monopoly suit that called for the breakup of the company. This decision wasn't pursued by the Bush Justice Department, which dropped the lawsuit after Microsoft said they'd play nice.
